Southern 100 drops Classics from July Meeting

The organising committee of the Steam Packet Southern ‘100’ International Road Races have reluctantly made the decision to drop the Classic Races from the 2010 meeting.

Run each July the ‘Southern’ has seen a steady increase in the number of competitors wishing to compete on the Billown Course on the outskirts of Castletown in the Isle of Man year on year which is most satisfying and the club has done its utmost to cater for this with the inclusion of extra races.

This welcome increase has not shown a similar trend within the Classic Races first introduced into the Southern ‘100’ in 1987, numbers have decreased

significantly over the last few years resulting in less than full grids appearing on the starting line.

However, Classic competitors will still be able to enjoy the experience of pitting their skills around the 4.25-mile course each year, as the Blackford Financial Services Pre-TT Classic Solo & Sidecar Races as the event continues to

attract the best of the classic racers each year as it has done since 1988.
